Home Away from Home for Christmas
Over 175 sailors from the Great Lakes Naval Base in Great Lakes, Illinois, will be hosted by the First Baptist Church
of Hammond, Indiana, on Christmas Day.
These sailors, who can’t go home, will enjoy some of the fun of home as FBC staff member, Brian Cassada, a former Air
Force captain, and some of the families of First Baptist Church try to ease the sailors’ loneliness this Christmas.
Each sailor will be treated to three home cooked meals, have the opportunity to play organized sports (as well as
video games and board games), or watch professional sports on big screen TVs.
Pastor Jack Schaap and First Baptist Church hope to bring some joy to these men who have volunteered to serve our
country during these trying days.
