Hammond's Old Federal Building Restored by First Baptist Church
May 11, 2010
You’re invited to a grand opening of Hammond’s old Federal Building on May 27 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. It will also be broadcast live on 90.5 FM.
First Baptist Church of Hammond acquired the Federal Building in 2009 after years of negotiations. The former Federal Building located on the corner of State and Oakley Streets has recently finished undergoing a massive remodeling project. Its previous occupants had left the 1939 building empty since 2002.
John Rice of Rice Construction, the general contractor on the project, stated in the beginning that the entire building needed renovation, from the roofs down. Some of the renovations included a new roof; boilers for the heating system, which have been reconditioned and brought up to standards; plumbing that has been repaired; old conduit that has been replaced for the new electrical, phone, and computer services throughout the building. New ceiling tiles, grid work, and walls have been put into place, along with fresh paint and carpet throughout the building, while keeping the historicity of the building in tact.
The "old" Federal Building is now complete in its transformation and is now the Administrative Office Building, or the AOB as it is known for First Baptist Church in Hammond. This building is serving as a hub for operations for First Baptist Church.
We are inviting everyone to stop by during our grand opening on Thursday, May 27, from 4:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. to take an official tour of the offices and our new radio station.
A special media reception will be held during the 4-p.m. to 6-p.m. hours and will include ribbon-cutting photo opportunities for the new Administrative Office Building and the new radio station, 90.5 FM The Key.
