Forgotten War Veterans Remembered

Schererville, Indiana (May 25, 2009)—This Memorial Day the Memory Lane Cemetery is focusing on the "Forgotten War." The Korean War veterans will be remembered and honored. The First Baptist Church of Hammond and the Memory Lane Cemetery will host a half hour memorial service to recognize the sacrifice that these soldiers have made.

The entire community is invited to attend the Memorial Day service with Dr. Jack Schaap and First Baptist Church at the Memory Lane Cemetery located at 6305 W. Lincoln Highway in Schererville, Indiana. Also participating will be the First Baptist Church Orchestra and a few of the local chapters of the VFW.

This event can be enjoyed by all. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and will last till 10:30 a.m. During the ceremony the Korean War veterans will be honored with a special Korean War commemorative medal. There will also be 133 flags erected in honor of the local heroes of the Korean War, and there will be ribbons with all of the names of the Korean War veterans from Northwest Indiana that will be tied to the flagpoles.

This event is expected to draw over 1,000 people from the local area, and also nearly 400 Korean War veterans have been invited to participate. The Korean War Veterans Association will also be participating.

There will be a special media session directly after the ceremony at 10:30 a.m., during which the press will be invited to take pictures as well as ask questions of the veterans. There will be refreshments inside the mausoleum conference room for anyone belonging to the press.
